The Jamaican Orthodox Mission celebrated a blessed event this weekend with the illumination of several new Orthodox Christians. Seven young men and women were baptized into Christ and chrismated at St. Moses the Black Orthodox Church (ROCOR) in Falmouth, Trelawny, on Saturday, August 29. The Sacraments were celebrated by Hieromonk Constantine (Myers)

On Friday, July 31, the community of St. Moses the Black Orthodox Church gathered in Falmouth to pray for and encourage our brother Ephraim (Garth West) before his departure for work-related training in Mexico. Ephraim has served the Jamaican Orthodox Mission faithfully, using his God-given talents to strengthen our fellowship. We are proud of his accomplishments and pray that God will bless, protect, and guide him throughout this important new chapter of his life.

Fr. Moses (Marlon Marlondo) Myers, Jamaica’s second native Orthodox priest-monk, was recently featured on From the Pulpit by Saudichress TV. In this interview, Fr. Moses shares his story and speaks about his journey to the Orthodox Christian faith and his service to the Church in Jamaica.

The Jamaica Gleaner recently featured Fr. Moses Myers, Jamaica’s second native Orthodox priest-monk, in an article entitled “From Ewarton to the High Altar.” The article recounts his upbringing in a deeply religious family, his discovery of the ancient Orthodox Christian faith, and his journey to monasticism and the holy priesthood. It also highlights his continuing ministry and his desire to invite Jamaicans to experience the fullness of the Orthodox faith.

On Friday, September 13, 2024, we celebrated the second anniversary of the election of His Eminence Nicholas (Olhovsky) as Metropolitan of the Eastern American Diocese and New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR).

The celebration of the Feast of Pentecost at St. Timothy the Apostle Orthodox Church.

Baptism and Chrismation of John, along with his wife and their two children, took place at St. Timothy the Apostle Orthodox Church, conducted by Fr. Vincent Dranginis.

A joint Christmas Day celebration by our two Orthodox communities was hosted at St. Timothy the Apostle Orthodox Church.

On October 6, 2022 Mr. Oleg Zhegl, Chargé d'Affaires of Russia in Jamaica held a meeting with the Very Reverend Vincent Dranginis, Priest-rector of St. Stephen's Church (Old Forge, Pennsylvania, the USA), representative of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia (ROCOR), visiting Jamaica for a nine-day visit on October 1 to 9, 2022.

On November 2, 2021 Ambassador of the Russian Federation Mr.Sergey Petrovich met with the Head of ROCOR’s parish in Grenada Hieromonk Ambrose, who was on a missionary visit to Jamaica, and the Local Representative of the Jamaican Orthodox Mission Mr. Moses Myers.

The mission parishes of the Jamaican Orthodox Mission have voted to join the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia and are in the process of being received.

It is well known that, at the turn of the last century, thousands of Syrians/Lebanese made the trip across the Atlantic to New York. What is less well known, at least here in the US, is that many Syrian emigrants went to other parts of the New World, including South America, Mexico, and the Caribbean. A lot of these travelers found their way to Jamaica, which, to this day, has a sizeable Syrian contingent.
